Two New Orcas and a Chick Book

Here's what landed on my desk this morning:

The Key to the Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson has 3 teenage sisters trying to cope with their father's sudden death.

These are both from Orca Publishers. Both the Orca Currents and Orca Soundings series' are great for reluctant readers, or readers who need a lower reading level, but want a more mature, involved storyline. They do a really good job of make the books short and the vocabulary at a lower level, while at the same time not dumbing down the story.

Pigboy by Vicki Grant has a class field trip going badly awry, when a burglar strikes and wants to eliminate all witnesses to the crime. The class nerd has the opportunity to become an unlikely hero.

Tell by Norah McClintock - When David's stepfather is murdered, David becomes a suspect. The police questioning brings out family mysteries and secrets including the earlier death of David's brother under suspicious circumstances.
